that is what this blog is about.Unknownnoreply@blogger.comBlogger45125tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3873275521829187333.post-26742225682284380942013-11-20T16:05:00.001-08:002013-11-20T16:05:42.529-08:00After a break..<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">
I am back after a long break from blogging. A family emergency left me no time to take pictures, write and post. In the past year I have worked on many projects and I hope I can begin to post them here slowly.<br />
<br />
Currently I am working on two baby caps. Knitting two different designs in two sizes. Here is a sneak peak to the cute little newborn sized cap -<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj_AWxfP5JAPFqZ4xEuEccBlr924IWzRROiJsWI5ldsS_VeFGSN63xCNGf0bB-7z7ZToZ7N_aApNS3NGB7oBLVFaLDXf3TZy14IfC01v2k8t4ZIcVApf9rRl5t0pMO-Z6wf4aV-xvPYuiXZ/s1600/DSC_0247-1y.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="282" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj_AWxfP5JAPFqZ4xEuEccBlr924IWzRROiJsWI5ldsS_VeFGSN63xCNGf0bB-7z7ZToZ7N_aApNS3NGB7oBLVFaLDXf3TZy14IfC01v2k8t4ZIcVApf9rRl5t0pMO-Z6wf4aV-xvPYuiXZ/s400/DSC_0247-1y.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I especially love the colors in this multi-color yarn - sweet for a spring baby. Its a soft baby yarn thats knit in a basic knit2 purl2 Rib Stitch. This design produces a fabric that has ribs which give it a little elasticity. For a baby cap this is ideal to ensure a snug fit over the forehead, covering the ears. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Its fascinating to create something so small for a new born ! Very excited about completing this cute project. Will share pictures of the completed cap.</div>

Here is my latest addition to baby things..<br />
A cute set of Baby Booties and Cap.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjqdY4XB-N6Jjdlwod6xQM_2ko-3RlbHqmhzA5Ut5hPD811ETSoJzt35QUY_RLGOWkuK1halZD2KXtyXtvdnFEzcPDt4R0o-kM-yh38bXpU3mAdxpTJ1fcHYUMdiuLiO5ZafUtmL3JmUufn/s1600/007-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="277" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjqdY4XB-N6Jjdlwod6xQM_2ko-3RlbHqmhzA5Ut5hPD811ETSoJzt35QUY_RLGOWkuK1halZD2KXtyXtvdnFEzcPDt4R0o-kM-yh38bXpU3mAdxpTJ1fcHYUMdiuLiO5ZafUtmL3JmUufn/s400/007-1.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
The Booties are made to look like Loafers. They are handmade in a combination of knit and crochet design. The combination of knitting and crochet stitches allow for more elasticity in the booties and makes for better wear. Absolutely adorable !<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_kLWkuE3kxZLEGSqEJB0LT__iJLXDmWoPegSquZ3-GEEwSG-exumAKxHlTl005bNoi7gp2PfhzEAc4o2VIRwDtfvv0sFooZYElwK3ShK53aqnZzeQi0YpDc4_SGGolHPwrCmz-r2llfzV/s1600/017-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="297" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_kLWkuE3kxZLEGSqEJB0LT__iJLXDmWoPegSquZ3-GEEwSG-exumAKxHlTl005bNoi7gp2PfhzEAc4o2VIRwDtfvv0sFooZYElwK3ShK53aqnZzeQi0YpDc4_SGGolHPwrCmz-r2llfzV/s400/017-1.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
The Cap is hand-knit in a rib stitch pattern. Its extra long to double up and fit newborns and babies up to 9 months. Cute tassels add whim to the design and makes for a cute accessory for baby.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh4V51KDjpe-4wOqxMV_z25sAhtde93p7-2pUkvGMrKIf8oIDvFOrZcvm744i8gQc5IqH6eHJxUQd1oDnfTW9E72F62O3JB1Xge05cmRKRA1kB7YcNpypMXOqa5CZjChsWoPGHYEL7zBcHI/s1600/001-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="171" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh4V51KDjpe-4wOqxMV_z25sAhtde93p7-2pUkvGMrKIf8oIDvFOrZcvm744i8gQc5IqH6eHJxUQd1oDnfTW9E72F62O3JB1Xge05cmRKRA1kB7YcNpypMXOqa5CZjChsWoPGHYEL7zBcHI/s200/001-1.jpg" width="200" /></a><br />

Ripples are in fashion again.. be it for a cushion or an afghan. I have been hooked on Crochet the whole month of August, my knitting projects have taken a back seat. Varying between different granny designs and ripples.. I am kinda addicted to them.. began with trying to create a soft ripple pattern and now I just cant stop! <br />
<br />
My first ripple-gan is almost done and its fascinating for me to keep adding more colors to it.. here is a sneak peak..<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhDnvxXgiCBzmKoCUbSZSxuwL1QTdixpojAjVkpgQ5za7lHffSKbHrusAzwGEOeXaojPULpsRsB0bUqU0HKjJ1OR_cUd4OSAlEbWTkoq8_pp4LBV1ULVIDDpEFxnJKGsVnO4PaBvjD96CjY/s1600/007-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="223" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhDnvxXgiCBzmKoCUbSZSxuwL1QTdixpojAjVkpgQ5za7lHffSKbHrusAzwGEOeXaojPULpsRsB0bUqU0HKjJ1OR_cUd4OSAlEbWTkoq8_pp4LBV1ULVIDDpEFxnJKGsVnO4PaBvjD96CjY/s400/007-1.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
Absolutely love the rainbow colors and its so soft to touch ! This one is made with all 100% acrylic yarns so the afghan is hard wearing and can be tossed into the washer-dryer without any problems. Looking forward to some snuggle time on the couch !<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgE49tWnSrPL_jwLKtm8lB0kS34WyQ7N7XXq-eKGOdbWYZdJh6P24GQBl0NJ6nnB-7o9Q3p2ek71LZeoAci5MQDr-uIL2-_tMPMsuM0-5oDWaRg52hT1w3AsBDGEvrdNbiXB2We89HcjXie/s1600/013-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="265" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgE49tWnSrPL_jwLKtm8lB0kS34WyQ7N7XXq-eKGOdbWYZdJh6P24GQBl0NJ6nnB-7o9Q3p2ek71LZeoAci5MQDr-uIL2-_tMPMsuM0-5oDWaRg52hT1w3AsBDGEvrdNbiXB2We89HcjXie/s400/013-1.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Right now I am loving the pastels in my new Ripple-ghan.. This is one of my most favorite color combination for little girls. Its working up fast but I think I will run out of yarn on this one.. A sneak peak for all ripple fans.. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg6pD9t_tblxf8hJ8hNKhkyeiyg5myvkuVMSdSpq4V-iFSDq57z4pAlueAUOCJswV6BxJQaVCiRsOAl-pfeGMVLo8MXagt6iFKmaftjBYuBw_A2UiX_x50a0_K1O6e87-aLI12RozNThLpF/s1600/002-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="265" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg6pD9t_tblxf8hJ8hNKhkyeiyg5myvkuVMSdSpq4V-iFSDq57z4pAlueAUOCJswV6BxJQaVCiRsOAl-pfeGMVLo8MXagt6iFKmaftjBYuBw_A2UiX_x50a0_K1O6e87-aLI12RozNThLpF/s400/002-1.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>

<br />
Hey Everyone, I am back with a new blankie for the little ones.. in a unique hex shape thats perfect for a cozy wrap and also works great in the car seat. The floral allows the buckles to fit in place without difficulty.<br />
<br />
Delicately made with 100% acrylic yarn makes for a great gift thats easy to care for. I especially enjoyed picking the colors for this one, so cute for a baby boy !! And a little baby girl blankie is in the making too !! This blankie can be customized to any color and with every new change the look changes completely. A very versatile piece thats built to last for generations !<br />

Using one style of cluster stitch I created a baby blankie that is light and airy and looks adorable! The colors used are bright teal for the body and crisp white for the border.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiw3VdOkUKJY6OvBHrwv-uMA6lHRp_BoY0yXNzay4SKigBVBk_s9lHuThwNsk2Sf8ofzFer7dVw_WcRJfWhHDLL0XEJD9YFfxAiAhIscIa5Qn_m-TWSjpFuBEok8rCqtCw0zhX2gg-nSVPv/s1600/006-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="265" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiw3VdOkUKJY6OvBHrwv-uMA6lHRp_BoY0yXNzay4SKigBVBk_s9lHuThwNsk2Sf8ofzFer7dVw_WcRJfWhHDLL0XEJD9YFfxAiAhIscIa5Qn_m-TWSjpFuBEok8rCqtCw0zhX2gg-nSVPv/s400/006-1.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br />
The stitch is very versatile and could be used for shrugs or shawls and even throws.<br />
The Blanket measures 30in x 30in <br />

<br />
Here we are again preparing for our next series of online classes. This is FOURTH in the series, and we will have two classes this time -<br />
<br />
1. CROCHET BASICS for BEGINNERS - Dec 1, 2010 [12 noon PST].<br />
2. CROCHET for INTERMEDIATE CROCHETERS - Dec 2, 2010 [12 noon PST]<br />
<br />
All you have to do be a participant in this class is fill out the poll here. <a href="https://spreadsheets.google.com/viewform?formkey=dE5EQjFiQnFkbDZzamUtRUNiMmVVT1E6MQ">CLICK HERE FOR THE POLL</a><br />
<br />
On the poll we have an option of attending both classes, however, please DO NOT opt for both unless you already know the basics of crochet. If you are absolutely new to crochet, following the intermediate class will be of no help to you at all. And if you are an intermediate lever crocheter, then you dont need the beginners class. A synopsis of the beginners class is available on the blog. Please look that up as a refresher or if you would like to know what will be covered in the beginners class. <a href="http://yarnilicious.blogspot.com/2009/04/transition-to-second-online-crochet.html">CLICK HERE FOR THE BEGINNER CLASS SYNOPSIS </a><br />

I wanted it to be swirly and to have curls at the edges. For a blanket to have even swirls I needed to begin it from the center and build it out. This is what I came up with...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJhYSXb9SJgFLBv0fEStF02CW0_JaO98FCyBKDdsbKmsgbPRvNps3dgMrdPvG7hG_vexRjSIF4EA21FWwb-4s6gP3V-AvuWoFY5zlG9is-TACWQcLIKT_uR5sLFYxiuEVF-x7n8VzltX6b/s1600/111-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="265" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJhYSXb9SJgFLBv0fEStF02CW0_JaO98FCyBKDdsbKmsgbPRvNps3dgMrdPvG7hG_vexRjSIF4EA21FWwb-4s6gP3V-AvuWoFY5zlG9is-TACWQcLIKT_uR5sLFYxiuEVF-x7n8VzltX6b/s400/111-1.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>The center flower is made in avocado-mint and snow white puffs in a granny square pattern. I am calling them Honeydew Squares. The simplicity of the single crochet rows makes the florets pop! The string of blossoms are crocheted individually and then joined together, they add to the lush feel of the blankie.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh0scpi-eHcNvC9lo8fQSThsviRAL8DKP02vLCZNJIEX9Fdh3jPqKzAJ_kPj2ngHX7mfHmX6MI8MRN1tSRfT2erNJQVOtj2SVagl46t8fy_Q9vVo5Qogd3PTdysWE-xh4YyqkS82TSrxbIi/s1600/099-1.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh0scpi-eHcNvC9lo8fQSThsviRAL8DKP02vLCZNJIEX9Fdh3jPqKzAJ_kPj2ngHX7mfHmX6MI8MRN1tSRfT2erNJQVOtj2SVagl46t8fy_Q9vVo5Qogd3PTdysWE-xh4YyqkS82TSrxbIi/s400/099-1.jpg" width="318" /></a></div><br />
<br />
I enjoyed the color combination, very fresh and so elegant. The flowers look identical from both sides and can be used for many different projects. Since they are so puffy, for this project, they make the blanket curl up from the center to the end.. how adorable !<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgYL60PUjz5uaB08nUQeg8ofoOjwblptny_Hc-b-K2CIqvrQtbkcjohJ46XsqGmg8yX7NbegdlDI9tWNqcZWuI95ORvRk2vKUIaeZ4jwnCLuZ56hvgihhnoX5GFXxG9cj2SBK6gyjoZfErg/s1600/095-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="301" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgYL60PUjz5uaB08nUQeg8ofoOjwblptny_Hc-b-K2CIqvrQtbkcjohJ46XsqGmg8yX7NbegdlDI9tWNqcZWuI95ORvRk2vKUIaeZ4jwnCLuZ56hvgihhnoX5GFXxG9cj2SBK6gyjoZfErg/s400/095-1.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>The center piece is important, it must be measured carefully and be a square with sides exactly double of the Honeydew squares. This is what makes the base for the rest of the design.<br />
<br />

By the way, is anyone interested in the pattern ??Unknownnoreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3873275521829187333.post-57061403927267337432010-06-12T23:08:00.000-07:002010-06-12T23:45:22.203-07:00Green Swirly ScarfI had been thinking of making a scarf in Kelly Green. I tried out a few patterns, created a couple designs.... etc.. Although I liked the designs, it was not what I had imagined. Since this green is so vibrant and bright, I wanted to create something that made a real statement. Something bold yet elegant and feminine. I found this pattern by accident. I remember it was part of the designs that were being promoted by Martha Stewart. It caught my fancy. I began making this scarf a long time back... I ran out of yarn towards the end and needed more to make the tassels. I had to run to the stores several times before I found one skein, hence the delay in posting it here. I wonder if Kelly Green was the color of the season!??<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg2n9aOBvMqhpZhJLxblj246vYjJOjYfcm1RYNQ2kIDEusQJT40L9Q5zXh0aGpSmJ6LXFQ6mPT2WwQgz5yHWkHW_BLGOy4lcasbbPgXjLbIvzG3sM05n6LAb5hMFeu1tCOPZKf5W7i-_efC/s1600/026-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg2n9aOBvMqhpZhJLxblj246vYjJOjYfcm1RYNQ2kIDEusQJT40L9Q5zXh0aGpSmJ6LXFQ6mPT2WwQgz5yHWkHW_BLGOy4lcasbbPgXjLbIvzG3sM05n6LAb5hMFeu1tCOPZKf5W7i-_efC/s400/026-1.jpg" width="280" /></a></div><br />
The Swirly Scarf... is so pretty and could be customized for anyone.. little girls or young ladies.. it was awesome working on it. I found the pattern on Lion Brand's website. <a href="http://www.lionbrand.com/patterns/80443AD.html?noImages=">CLICK HERE</a> to visit the link. This pattern is super easy and makes me wonder why dint I think of this? It is just an extension of what I've made several times - crocheted circles ! Its a great project for a beginner, especially because you can finish it in a day ! Instant gratification! ...well, almost. :-)<br />
I am glad I looked at the pattern and just started off...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgTvt5ThUOi7ZqDa6iyqDIpfQZTlvWbv_NK3MT2pIuxeixpXXvmQVXbD_3_nECsWhjK6tbBEYRhvM-TtEFGT1_KX4oxTd-tE3BXAghF4XAcIqQNDsIpoAcHDHdZm2-KnLaAQHDk6qghlvKG/s1600/042-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="357" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgTvt5ThUOi7ZqDa6iyqDIpfQZTlvWbv_NK3MT2pIuxeixpXXvmQVXbD_3_nECsWhjK6tbBEYRhvM-TtEFGT1_KX4oxTd-tE3BXAghF4XAcIqQNDsIpoAcHDHdZm2-KnLaAQHDk6qghlvKG/s400/042-1.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br />
I believe I must have put in about five hours to complete the scarf. I made it extra long for myself because I love to double my scarves when wearing them. I made the scarf in two parts as suggested in the pattern. There is no particular reason why the scarf should be made in two parts. I decided to make it in two parts because it helped me keep the circles under control. If I had crocheted the whole length together it would have been a lot to move around, specially because I like to carry my projects wherever I go. I worked on the two parts separately, got the tassels on and then sew them together. I feel making it in two parts was much easier for me. However, if you are crocheting a smaller length, I think doing the complete length at one go would save a lot of effort.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2BzG1jgUtueZgHcom7h9zGXubrza2cZKPt5CAwdqrijFOX48zpBfrvwTnMBz8RCm6TDYW7AwRSPiAREWbbjjs9nos_vvMCO7O41CfR-E7M9Efeo84RnUDWrac_DniqW-qOUAd1Oc2K5HH/s1600/032-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2BzG1jgUtueZgHcom7h9zGXubrza2cZKPt5CAwdqrijFOX48zpBfrvwTnMBz8RCm6TDYW7AwRSPiAREWbbjjs9nos_vvMCO7O41CfR-E7M9Efeo84RnUDWrac_DniqW-qOUAd1Oc2K5HH/s400/032-1.jpg" width="290" /></a></div><br />
I made a few changes to the pattern. I used Half Double Crochet stitch for the whole pattern instead of the Double Crochet stitch as suggested in the pattern. I think the HDC looks much nicer than the DC stitches and this also helped me keep the width of the scarf under four inches.<br />

This book is the next in series after <b>'Knitting on the Edge: Ribs, Ruffles, Lace, Fringes, Floral, Points & Picots'</b> which featured a large collection of Decorative Borders.<br />
<br />
I have enjoyed designing my own edgings for every project. However, working with the patterns in this book was just wonderful. The parts that I specially enjoyed were working on different types of fringes and the pretty floral appliques. Some of these patterns looked very complicated, but once I started working through it, the pattern seemed easy enough. <br />
<br />
If you are into knitting and are looking for some creative juices to add a special touch to your designs, this book is a must read for you. It is fun to create, the edgings can be easily modified to suit any garment and the instructions are easy to follow.<br />
<br />
I am still not done with this book... I will be posting my pictures of all the trims that I ave adapted for my projects. Tune in again !Unknownnoreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3873275521829187333.post-50106974736832645722010-05-29T01:37:00.000-07:002010-06-06T11:55:03.206-07:00Book Review - Vogue Knitting Stitchionary<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgNfTpTRPxVYBxpUUKPGjhxrkwlvZLdtbV02vbbKpHmh5Ke4tAKpAifNAvN1vVOgpg7NvlWgS5HVWhLRePx1yyhEaffpI0BuIcliumVcbOHC13PHdIljqGm_gA0gqK1PZ_kSWi9JDNQ4LZm/s1600/210-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgNfTpTRPxVYBxpUUKPGjhxrkwlvZLdtbV02vbbKpHmh5Ke4tAKpAifNAvN1vVOgpg7NvlWgS5HVWhLRePx1yyhEaffpI0BuIcliumVcbOHC13PHdIljqGm_gA0gqK1PZ_kSWi9JDNQ4LZm/s400/210-1.jpg" width="397" /></a></div>I learnt to knit first and then I picked up crochet.. between the two I found it easier to experiment with crochet than with my knitting simply because of the ease of carrying my crochet projects wherever I went. It is also the ease of picking up the craft that makes crochet very easy to introduce to first timers. I have enjoyed doing that over the last 3 years and I am glad that I could reach out to over 70 people who wanted to learn and create their own little yarn things.<br />
<br />
As I spoke with my yarn friends, I found many of them interested in knitting. However, most of them were apprehensive where to begin, how to go on and how to deal with s many stitches on the needles ! Yes, it can be quite different when you are working with one loop while crocheting.<br />
<br />
I began my search for the books that I could recommend to my friends. Books that would begin with the basics of knitting and then help beginners graduate into more complex designs. With that search began my series of experiments with what I read in every book as I tried out the patterns. Here is my series of Book Reviews. Hope you enjoy them and check out the books !<br />
<br />
The first book that I have picked out for review is an exhausting collection of patterns which use varying permutations of Knit, Purl and Yarn Overs. <b><a href="http://www.vogueknitting.com/resources/stitchionary/knit_purl.aspx">The Vogue Knitting Stitchionary Volume One: Knit & Purl</a></b> by <i>The Editors of Vogue Knitting Magazine</i> is the first in the Vogue Knitting Stitchionary Series. This is a wonderful book for someone starting out with knitting. The patterns are a collection from the original Vogue Knitting Magazine. They have been carefully handpicked to form a gradual progression from the simple designs of knit and purl to lace and then to some unusual designs.<br />
<br />
The patterns are well spelt out and are easy to follow. I have used this book to make a couple scarves and a number of swatches. I am looking forward to making many more and I hope to join them all together for a colorful throw, full of texture. This book is a great tool that will see you through projects. Just feel free to try out the patterns, make swatches and mix and match them for your own unique garment.<br />
<br />
For Copyright reasons I will not be producing any of the designs here. I urge you to check out the book... have fun and get creative !!!Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3873275521829187333.post-58911645472725504092010-05-24T23:13:00.000-07:002010-05-24T23:25:32.140-07:00Wow ! Baby..Hey Guys...<br /><br />I've been waiting to put up my pictures and video and like crazy I have not been able to.. Anyways, I thought of writing to everyone here... <br /><br />I have stayed away from the blog front coz I have been busy setting up my little store online. Its not done yet... once it is populated, I'll put up the link here. Not many yarn projects on for now... just one actually.<br /><br />Anyways, I have decided that I will knit and crochet along with everyone here rather than finishing my project and then posting here. That ways you all will now see how many times I change my mind about a project and how many times my well thought out pattern changes as it reaches completion. So now on you will get to see a lot of unfinished project pictures, my trials and errors that I almost never post about. I feel those are the real fun things... my projects might seem neat and clean.. but they are never that ways while I am still working on them... :)<br /><br />Currently working on a Baby Blanket which is a combination of knitting and crochet. Although simple, this is my first time mixing the two. And the project is my own design. This is a special blankie for my best friend Sangi. Yup, she's expecting her first baby in October. And we all just found out that its a baby GIRL !<br /><br />So wait up for more updates on that and some funky pictures !Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3873275521829187333.post-4698036818437829762010-04-21T20:47:00.000-07:002010-04-21T20:55:00.435-07:00And we're back !Hey Everyone..<br /><br />The blog has been silent for a while.. but that wont be the case now on.<br />Spring is here and We're back with some old and new projects.<br /><br />I will be posting pictures and patterns for a few things that I finished making in the last few months that I was away from the blog. That includes a couple scarves, a lot of baby stuff (Yea ! not just crocheted but knitted too !) and some accessories.<br /><br />Welcome back ! and watch out for the fun stuff beginning this Friday.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3873275521829187333.post-57029565790209340422009-10-06T15:09:00.000-07:002010-02-01T09:38:52.657-08:00On Vacation..<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgg4_k7-qACPJfVGSav-BAs8ubF8KCkTinzChspfPfFpiMQSQmzDEz8hW2SeKTkIMPw3vGMYaHhQhe5zeRonQSZ1Dpk2xd4ihqR6LRqKHnFKno1XEzFaKDWmsDeibKSPpLxZD_IvdYVYiEr/s1600-h/phiphi1.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgg4_k7-qACPJfVGSav-BAs8ubF8KCkTinzChspfPfFpiMQSQmzDEz8hW2SeKTkIMPw3vGMYaHhQhe5zeRonQSZ1Dpk2xd4ihqR6LRqKHnFKno1XEzFaKDWmsDeibKSPpLxZD_IvdYVYiEr/s400/phiphi1.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5433330299623770130" /></a><br /><br />I have been away for a while... had an extended vacation. <br />
This summer I worked with kittens at the local shelter. The kitten 'season' leaves a large number of unweaned litters.. with little kittens, often a few hours old who cant eat, dont know what they need to survive the day. <br />
<br />
Their moms have either abandoned them or are driven away such that they cant find the babies anymore. These kittens are brought to the shelter and taken care of... I joined the group that takes turn in cleaning, feeding and nurturing these kittens. Here is my story -<br />
<br />
I love animals! <br />
I've been passionate about them all my life. Working with them, for their well-being has been very fulfilling. I've always found unconditional love and devotion in my four legged friends and it was for this feeling that I wanted to go back to do what I enjoy thoroughly.<br />
<br />
This summer I met a cute litter of four kittens. They were so little that I could hide one in my palm ! They were fragile and vulnerable... In the first couple weeks the litter lost a brother and a sister. <br />
This is what the babies looked like when they came to us - <br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi2IMuCqHxF63wMiXQW_bvHs-cOILzNJBatqd5e8ZE4p3p1g5ALq8n1q2oyJn1SLw2jFDBOSaOUzntQThU0tPyYwgbOO_K64vt2myI_s6HxKoSUARje4ueb0hpSxCEdWm3oO63KOiRv-Xu5/s1600-h/Kittie+02.jpg" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5387913413409136258" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi2IMuCqHxF63wMiXQW_bvHs-cOILzNJBatqd5e8ZE4p3p1g5ALq8n1q2oyJn1SLw2jFDBOSaOUzntQThU0tPyYwgbOO_K64vt2myI_s6HxKoSUARje4ueb0hpSxCEdWm3oO63KOiRv-Xu5/s400/Kittie+02.jpg" style="cursor: hand; cursor: pointer; display: block; height: 286px; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; width: 400px;" /></a><br />
<br />
Dont miss the food sticking to their faces... they dint know how to clean themselves and do the regular kitten stuff. Even then, aren't they just CUTE !!! <br />
We had to syringe feed the kitties, induce them to go poopoo.. and keep them warm with heat pads below their beds to help them survive the night temperatures.<br />
<br />
We struggled to feed the remaining two kittens - the orange one and the cute black with orange face :) Sometimes it was tough and required patience and perseverance.. in the end they made it. <br />
<br />
At the end of the season, these two are healthy, playful and adorable kitties looking for a loving home. I wish they get adopted together coz they love to catch each other by the arm and do a rumble-tumble! They love to sleep on each other... throwing paws at each other... and do a lot of other things together !<br />
<br />
From that day to this... it has been a fun experience. <br />
Here is how lovely they look now...<br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixU_fIJPF6kl4NVjBuKiT59bQ_BNxKnwt2rIsYX9J9WvT8_uGyHUaaER9P5nG6wFLCQv7FtrSgrr25_TTeXh0BgXy5ocnzqAoUmdWkeWFCnE-wLtcXJkkDqad3c0eqAcwk_cz3qV0ugebL/s1600-h/Kittie+03.jpg" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5387913565611934450" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixU_fIJPF6kl4NVjBuKiT59bQ_BNxKnwt2rIsYX9J9WvT8_uGyHUaaER9P5nG6wFLCQv7FtrSgrr25_TTeXh0BgXy5ocnzqAoUmdWkeWFCnE-wLtcXJkkDqad3c0eqAcwk_cz3qV0ugebL/s400/Kittie+03.jpg" style="cursor: hand; cursor: pointer; display: block; height: 208px; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; width: 400px;" /></a><br />
<br />
<br />
I just love the gorgeous blue eyes !<br />
This picture was taken after the kittens had a full meal and were about to take their afternoon nap and the orange kitty got thirsty. If you've had kittens you'll know its difficult to catch them on a cam coz they are so swift !<br />
<br />
On the last day of the season, I crocheted a little orange fish toy especially for my fave kitties. Its to wish them luck and love for all times to come... and guess what! I think they like it !!!<br />
<br />

<br />
I grew up with dogs and always thought I was more of a 'Dog-Person'. My experience with these kittens has changed that thought !<br />
<br />
Truly, love knows no bounds......<br />
<br />
<br />
UPDATE: These two lovely kittens got adopted together. They found their forever home and loved the little Fish toy so much that they had to take it with them. I am so happy for them! Everytime I see their pictures, they make me smile. Love'em.<br />

Which is always a great thing :-)<br />So I've decided to have classes on both days - <br />Wednesday, 16th Sept and<br />Friday, 18th Sept<br /><br />The classes will be an hour long, give or take a few minutes. They will be just the same as far as content is concerned. Sometimes I get different set of questions from the participants in different classes and I assimilate them in the Follow up post for the class (which you will see on my blog soon after the class) just so everyone can read about what we learnt in class.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEidgZROshBfooRn7KqhiBDS5gj9xV83a70Alk-qzZV1J4Tl4RB1nRRMPmhMKBwA5OwWKFTtY24IDkDeNUQzt5Gnm-kCljqNyECFviYk1acXN-uDyGI4LuOq2QZjqHlBDg_3KNEhu3sqPVop/s1600-h/019-+blog.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 321px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEidgZROshBfooRn7KqhiBDS5gj9xV83a70Alk-qzZV1J4Tl4RB1nRRMPmhMKBwA5OwWKFTtY24IDkDeNUQzt5Gnm-kCljqNyECFviYk1acXN-uDyGI4LuOq2QZjqHlBDg_3KNEhu3sqPVop/s400/019-+blog.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5375128872177139074" /></a><br /><br /><br />These classes are for <span style="font-weight:bold;">BEGINNERS ONLY</span>. If you are new to crochet or if this is your first time holding a crochet hook, you are MOST WELCOME TO THE CLASS !!! We will be talking about yarns, learning about crochet basics and we'll practice as many stitches as possible. This class will be aimed towards getting you ready to begin your first crochet project. <br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg0-HNvOfRpyoD1JXSIx-yMXA807p0EnPo5wSYJtTZ59FOJA6xGNGEd2U-lTMJj-q9T74mV1irxn9MVZD67Qz8i3jCvSHlWW2b6YkR3Me43jYJwKLF0JVjPMlZY545DV7s-pXjK9u23l4uI/s1600-h/006.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg0-HNvOfRpyoD1JXSIx-yMXA807p0EnPo5wSYJtTZ59FOJA6xGNGEd2U-lTMJj-q9T74mV1irxn9MVZD67Qz8i3jCvSHlWW2b6YkR3Me43jYJwKLF0JVjPMlZY545DV7s-pXjK9u23l4uI/s400/006.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5375128420238559394" /></a><br /><br /><span style="font-weight:bold;">WHAT TO GET FOR THE CLASS -</span><br /><br />1. YARN - 4ply worsted 100% cotton yarn<br />2. NEEDLE - US Size G crochet hook (4mm or 4.25mm)<br /><br />Cotton yarns are the best to begin with because -<br />a. They are not very stretchable so you will be able to work with it without issues;<br />b. They are best to practice with since they are thick enough;<br />c. They come in such a variety of color... you'll be surprised.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgtn_KR69jegLjAkeQrxryFfpVKUKyk9qXu56BSuNz5rvkY4YZO7UeEndxQ3B5bpjJVHnWtVIeaP_oaqSKUtUw3fANFvMmZ13faSQHIrZE4-tyG8I1C7N_wLftPFRO3YsXhFvf4fn5vFPW1/s1600-h/015-1.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgtn_KR69jegLjAkeQrxryFfpVKUKyk9qXu56BSuNz5rvkY4YZO7UeEndxQ3B5bpjJVHnWtVIeaP_oaqSKUtUw3fANFvMmZ13faSQHIrZE4-tyG8I1C7N_wLftPFRO3YsXhFvf4fn5vFPW1/s400/015-1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5375129312827934082" /></a><br /><br />So when you go looking for this yarn, just look for "Sugar n Creme" or "Peaches n Cream" cotton yarns (I am adding a few pictures of the cotton yarn that we will be using in the class). These are readily available in stores like Michaels, Joann, Walmart, Hobby Lobby etc.... these are fun to work with.. and you can choose from a wide variety of colors !!!<br /><br />Feel free to leave me your questions and comments.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3873275521829187333.post-60614131143993161572009-08-26T12:00:00.001-07:002009-08-28T14:35:42.227-07:00Crochet Classes for IHM - Part 3<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh44aJ3YvbhDSVqGQEY__Spwgokf1dxe2Odf1dSsz7yV5TOvF2x6lf1r-p4M2vgUrUVT-Mykkfgk84VYm5KrHQxjeINhxq4uVUSvSn-NSI2w-OuY53_pkrEt4ctAVpKhRrWZbLFM9HUtDMd/s1600-h/Yarn+pictures.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 57px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh44aJ3YvbhDSVqGQEY__Spwgokf1dxe2Odf1dSsz7yV5TOvF2x6lf1r-p4M2vgUrUVT-Mykkfgk84VYm5KrHQxjeINhxq4uVUSvSn-NSI2w-OuY53_pkrEt4ctAVpKhRrWZbLFM9HUtDMd/s400/Yarn+pictures.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5374354974100219266" /></a><br />Hey Everyone !<br /><br />Welcome to our new online class ! <br />This is going to be for BEGINNERS.
